Tripura BJP President, Rajib Bhattacharya, announced on Thursday that the BJP secured 71% of seats uncontested in the state’s three-tier Panchayat polls, attributing this to the opposition’s organizational weaknesses. Speaking at a press conference, Bhattacharya detailed the polls scheduled for August 8, with results expected on August 12.

In 605 Gram Panchayats, with a total of 6,370 seats, 4,704 candidates won without contest, leaving 1,666 seats up for election. Similarly, in 35 Panchayat Samitis, 244 candidates won uncontested out of 423 seats, with elections to determine the remaining 179 seats. For the Zila Parishad, 20 candidates were elected uncontested out of 116 seats. According to Bhattacharya, the BJP won uncontested in 409 Gram Panchayats and 20 Panchayat Samitis.

Bhattacharya highlighted the BJP’s performance in the recent Lok Sabha election as evidence of public support. He praised the “double engine” government led by PM Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha for their efforts in providing essential services such as housing, water, toilets, and social pensions.

He criticized the opposition parties, CPIM and Congress, accusing them of neglecting the poor during their tenure and working for the benefit of their leaders and families. Bhattacharya claimed that the opposition’s inability to field candidates has led them to spread false allegations against the BJP.

BJP Tripura General Secretary, Amit Rakhsit, revealed the formation of a 12-member Election Management Committee for the upcoming Panchayat elections. He credited the uncontested victories to the leadership of Bhattacharya and Chief Minister Saha, emphasizing that BJP candidates have been fielded in all seats of the Gram Panchayat, Zila Parishad, and Panchayat Samitis through a democratic process.

In summary, Bhattacharya asserted that the BJP’s significant uncontested wins reflect public trust in their governance, while the opposition’s failures underscored their lack of organizational strength.
