Stellantis Faces Significant Profit Decline and Operational Hurdles in First Half of 2024

Auto giant Stellantis, which owns well-known brands such as Jeep, Dodge, Fiat, Chrysler, and Peugeot, reported a significant drop in net profit for the first half of 2024. The company cited reduced volumes, temporary production gaps, and a lower market share in North America as primary factors for this decline.

The multinational conglomerate’s net profit for the first half of 2024 stood at 5.6 billion euros ($6.07 billion), marking a striking 48% decrease compared to the same period in 2023. Stellantis also saw its adjusted operating income for the first six months of 2024 plummet to 8.5 billion euros, a reduction of 5.7 billion euros year-over-year, mainly driven by its performance in the North American market.

“The Company’s performance in the first half of 2024 fell short of our expectations, reflecting both a challenging industry context as well as our own operational issues,” Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares stated on Thursday. He emphasized that while the company is taking corrective measures to address these issues, they have also initiated an aggressive product launch strategy. “We have no fewer than 20 new vehicles launching this year, and with that comes bigger opportunities when we execute well,” Tavares added.

The CEO acknowledged the significant work needed, particularly in North America, to unlock Stellantis’ long-term potential. The company is committed to addressing its operational challenges and seizing new market opportunities through its upcoming product launches.

This developing story will continue to be updated as more information becomes available.
