
Manipur Police Triumphantly Apprehend Key Suspect in Shocking Chiru Murder Case
Manipur Police have apprehended Khangenbam Sanaton, also known as Sanatomba Singh, aged 53, in connection with the murder of Mirangge Chiru, a member of the Chiru tribe. The arrest and subsequent court remand to eight days of police custody were confirmed by the police via their X handle. Investigations continue as efforts are made to capture other suspects involved.
The victim, Mirangge Chiru, a resident of Kangchup Chiru in Manipur, was reportedly tortured to death in a brutal incident on July 15, 2024, causing widespread anguish within the community. In response, family members of the deceased are urging authorities to fast-track the investigation and swiftly prosecute all those responsible.
The United Naga Council (UNC) and the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) have denounced the murder in a joint statement, condemning the violence and offering condolences to the bereaved family. They have pledged comprehensive cooperation towards an amicable resolution and have taken moral responsibility for the community’s wellbeing.
Both organizations emphasized their unwavering commitment to ensuring justice for Mirangge Chiru and his family. They called on the authorities to thoroughly investigate the crime, apprehend all involved culprits, and guarantee the future security and welfare of the victim’s family.
