Tenant Dispute Puts Agartala Elderly in Distress

Agartala, July 17, 2024: An elderly widow, 79-year-old Kanti Rani Bhattacharya, is embroiled in a troubling tenant dispute in the Milan Chakra area of the capital city. Since October 26, 2018, her house has been occupied by Parimal Shil, a resident of Kamalpur sub-division. Despite the expiry of his lease on December 1, 2021, Shil has not vacated the premises and has ceased paying rent.

Shockingly, Shil has demanded Rs 7 lakh from Bhattacharya to leave her property. Despite reporting the issue to AD Nagar police station, Bhattacharya received no effective assistance and was instead directed to approach a local club. There, she was advised to comply with Shil’s demands.

Feeling forsaken, Bhattacharya sought help from the Women’s Commission and approached the Sub-Divisional Police Officer. She alleges she has faced various forms of threats, further complicating her situation.

The community now eagerly awaits administrative intervention to resolve this distressing matter, relieving the elderly pensioner’s untenable predicament.
