Dibrugarh: Assam Medical College Unveils Renovated Pathology Heritage Museum
Dibrugarh, Assam: In a ceremony held on Tuesday at Assam Medical College (AMC), Vice-Principal Reema Nath inaugurated the newly renovated Pathology Heritage Museum. The event saw enthusiastic participation from faculty members, alumni, and students, all eager to witness the rejuvenated landmark.
Adity Sharma, Professor and Head of the Pathology Department, expressed her excitement over the renovation. "The pathology museum now houses over 1,500 specimens collected since 1991. It will provide invaluable educational resources for medical professionals, faculty members, and students," Sharma stated. The Heritage Conservation Society of Assam has recognized the museum as a heritage centre.
Sharma lauded the generous contribution of Rs 3,65,650 from the 1964 batch of alumni, noting that their support, along with contributions from other alumni and the college, made the renovation possible. The renovated museum, designed by Nittya Gupta and inspired by British architecture, features striking wooden interiors, high ceilings, and historical artifacts, including a statue of the Greek god Asclepius.
The museum boasts a collection of diverse specimens, Latin and Greek-era paintings, and handmade illustrations. It also includes a specimen section with glass-walled steel cabinets, a preparation room equipped with historical tools, and an artist’s room. The archaic classroom, complete with curved wooden tables and benches, remains a favorite among pathologists, surgeons, and orthopedists.
The revitalized museum not only aims to honor its historical legacy but also serves as a state-of-the-art educational facility, enriching the learning experience for the AMC community.
