The UN’s Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has reported three significant mass casualty incidents and five other lethal strikes in Gaza over three days leading up to July 14, 2024. The most devastating attack occurred on July 13 in the al-Mawasi area of Khan Younis, killing at least 90 Palestinians. This strike targeted an area containing tents for displaced individuals, a food kitchen, and a water point. Among the victims were children, women, and members of the Gaza Civil Defence who were aiding victims at the scene.
On the same day, another mass casualty strike hit a makeshift prayer site in the Shati refugee camp, west of Gaza City, resulting in 22 deaths. The following day, July 14, a UNRWA school in Nuseirat, which was providing shelter to displaced Palestinians, was also targeted, leading to at least 15 deaths and injuring 80 others.
According to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, between July 11 and July 15, a total of 319 Palestinians were killed and 802 were injured due to these attacks.
The UN has highlighted the impact of these strikes, noting the particularly high number of casualties among vulnerable groups, including children and humanitarian workers. This troubling escalation has drawn international concern and underscores the severe humanitarian crisis facing Gaza.
