JD Vance, the Senator from Ohio and Donald Trump’s vice-presidential pick for the upcoming US presidential elections, recently credited his Hindu wife, Usha Chilukuri Vance, with playing a crucial role in his spiritual journey towards Christianity. Vance highlighted her unwavering support as he rediscovered his faith, describing her as a significant part of his success.
The couple, married since 2014 and parents to three children, have successfully navigated their interfaith marriage. In a 54-second clip from a Fox News interview, Vance, 39, revealed that he was baptized in 2018, encouraged by Usha, who remains non-Christian. "I was raised Christian but never baptized. When I started to re-engage with my faith, Usha was very supportive," Vance stated.
Usha Vance also spoke about her upbringing in a religious Hindu household, which instilled strong moral values in her. "I knew JD was searching for something, and this felt right for him," she said. The couple also highlighted their effective communication as key to their family life and parenting, with Usha emphasizing, "We just talk a lot."
Born James David Bowman in Middletown, Ohio, Vance’s upbringing was marked by his mother’s addiction struggles and his father’s absence, leading him to be raised by his grandparents. Despite these challenges, Vance has emerged as a prominent political figure.
Former President Trump announced Vance as his running mate on Truth Social, stating, "After lengthy deliberation and considering the tremendous talents of many others, I have decided Senator J.D. Vance of Ohio is best suited to assume the position of Vice President." This announcement follows a failed assassination attempt on Trump, adding to the high stakes of the forthcoming election in November.
