Arunachal Cabinet Enacts Groundbreaking Examination Act with Tough Penalties, Revolutionizes Staff Selection for a Brighter Future
Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu led a Cabinet meeting that resulted in significant decisions, notably the enactment of an examination act and the integration of multiple posts into the Arunachal Pradesh Staff Selection Board (APSSB). Among the prominent approvals was the “Arunachal Pradesh Examination (Measures for Prevention of Unfair Means in Recruitment) Act 2024.” This legislation aims to tackle issues like question paper leaks and malpractice in recruitment exams. The draft bill, featuring hefty penalties including fines up to Rs 1 crore and imprisonment, is set for discussion in the upcoming second session of the 8th Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly starting July 19.
The new act seeks to establish a transparent and fair selection process for government posts, eliminating corrupt practices. Additionally, the Cabinet sanctioned the inclusion of 13 distinct categories of APSSB posts into the common cadre of Arunachal Pradesh Civil Service and Arunachal Pradesh Secretariat Service. This restructuring is expected to enhance human resource management and ensure an unbiased recruitment process.
Previously, the state government had merged all categories of posts from the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission into the common cadre, with officers rotating on a three-year tenure. This move will now be extended to APSSB, facilitating systematic officer deployment.
During the meeting, senior police officials, including the Director General of Police and Secretary Home, briefed the Chief Minister and Cabinet on three new criminal laws. The discussion highlighted public safety improvements and streamlined legal procedures through phased implementation, training programs for law enforcement, public awareness campaigns, and monitoring systems.
Chief Minister Khandu and the Cabinet ministers emphasized the need for a coordinated strategy to ensure the effective adoption of these reforms, underlining the critical nature of these changes for fair governance and public trust.
