In Silchar town, Assam, fifteen individuals sustained injuries after a purportedly intoxicated man embarked on a destructive spree with his SUV, hitting pedestrians and vehicles indiscriminately, police reported on Saturday. The chaos unfolded on Friday night, inciting widespread panic, as the alleged drunk driver first struck three people near the municipal office. In an attempt to escape, he injured another trio at Capital Point.
The mayhem continued as the SUV collided with three motorbikes and several e-rickshaws on Trunk Road near the radio station. Witnessing the unfolding havoc, locals began to pursue the SUV on their two-wheelers. The SUV’s rampage was brought to an abrupt halt at Tennis Club Point, where the vehicle was rendered immobile by poor road conditions.
Police officials promptly arrived at the scene, seizing both the SUV and its driver. According to authorities, several liquor bottles were discovered inside the vehicle. “A total of 15 people were injured in the incident,” confirmed a police officer. The event underscores the grave consequences of reckless driving and the dangers posed by driving under the influence, serving as a stark reminder for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations and alcohol consumption laws.
