Outrage as Drunk BMW Hit-And-Run Suspect Mihir Shah Knew of Accident, Mumbai Police Say
Summary of the Worli Hit-and-Run Incident
In a tragic hit-and-run incident in Mumbai’s Worli area, Mihir Shah, 24, was revealed to be heavily intoxicated when his BMW struck and killed Kaveri Nakhwa and injured her husband, Pradeep Nakhwa. Mumbai police reported on Thursday that Shah consumed "12 pegs of whiskey" before the accident on a Saturday night.
As per police sources, Shah was aware of something "trapped" beneath his car after the collision but chose not to stop. The incident occurred early Sunday morning as the couple rode their two-wheeler. Shah, the son of Shiv Sena leader Rajesh Shah, had been evading authorities since the incident but was arrested in Thane on Tuesday.
Pradeep Nakhwa alleged that Mihir intentionally dragged his wife’s body despite repeated pleas to halt the vehicle. On the night of the accident, Shah had picked up four cans of beer from Malad Bangur Nagar and was on a "joyride" from Juhu to Borivali to Marine Drive and back.
In a related development, the Shah family’s driver, Rajrishi Bidawat, was arrested for aiding Mihir’s escape post-accident. Presented to the court on Sunday, Bidawat was remanded in judicial custody for 14 days. Mihir Shah was produced before Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (Sewree court) S P Bhosale on Wednesday and has been remanded in police custody for six days, until July 16, to facilitate further investigation into potential evidence tampering.
The police remain focused on uncovering who may have assisted Mihir in destroying evidence related to the crime. This case continues to unfold as more details emerge.
