Passionate Plea: Sikkim MP Indra Hang Subba Champions Revival of Historic Nathula Trade Route for Unprecedented Development
Sikkim Member of Parliament Indra Hang Subba outlined a vision for the state’s development across various sectors during a press conference on July 6.
Subba emphasized the strategic importance of reopening the Nathula Pass for trade activities and mentioned ongoing efforts to explore trade routes with Nepal and China. “We are in continuous dialogues with the Central Government to facilitate these initiatives,” he said.
Addressing the demand for reserved seats for Limboo and Tamang communities, Subba confirmed the government’s commitment to advancing delimitation processes. “Delimitation is crucial for ensuring equitable representation,” he asserted, expressing confidence that the Central Government would grant justice in response to these initiatives.
Subba also reiterated his party, the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM)’s support for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), while underlining that Sikkim’s welfare and security remain the administration’s top priority.
On infrastructure, Subba highlighted the importance of the inter-state national highway, describing it as vital for regional connectivity. He announced a forthcoming meeting on July 8 to expedite the handover of highway maintenance and upgrades to the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL).
Focusing on minority affairs, Subba detailed provisions for Sikkim’s Buddhist community, which include support for monastic schools and cultural preservation. He also noted plans to establish a dedicated hospital to further these efforts.
In addressing power shortages, Subba discussed comprehensive assessments submitted to key central ministers, emphasizing the impact of power losses on state revenue. “We are proactively engaging with central leaders, including the Prime Minister and Union Power Minister, to seek solutions,” he said.
In closing, Subba’s presentation signified a robust and multi-faceted approach to Sikkim’s growth, underpinned by active collaboration with central authorities and a commitment to equitable and sustainable development.
