Chennai City Police Commissioner Sandeep Rai Rathore Debunks Political Conspiracy Behind Armstrong’s Tragic Murder
City Police Commissioner Sandeep Rai Rathore has stated there is no political conspiracy behind the murder of BSP leader K. Armstrong, although the possibility has not been entirely ruled out. In a briefing, Rathore indicated that preliminary investigations show no political motive, but acknowledged Armstrong had feuds with political rivals, warranting further inquiries.
Rathore addressed allegations from some political parties questioning the culpability of the arrested suspects, asserting their involvement. “After thorough investigation by analyzing CCTV footage and mobile phone signals, we arrested eight suspects. We have evidence and witness accounts pointing to their involvement,” he said.
Discussing the motive behind the murder, Rathore noted that investigations are following multiple leads and angles, with hopes of apprehending all individuals involved. He added that Armstrong was not listed in any threat category maintained by the police and had no specific threats against him. Armstrong, who held a valid gun license, was known to carry a firearm frequently.
Armstrong’s background revealed a history of legal troubles, including seven criminal cases and involvement in a caste clash at Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law College in 2008. His political career was marked by an unsuccessful bid for the Kolathur Assembly seat in the 2011 election, where his affidavit disclosed two criminal cases. These included charges of criminal intimidation, using obscene language in public, rioting, and unlawful assembly.
However, Rathore confirmed that Armstrong had no pending criminal cases at the time of his death, having been acquitted in seven cases with the history-sheet against him closed by a Madras High Court order.
Investigations continue as police aim to clarify the motives and apprehend all those implicated in the crime, with further details to be released upon investigation completion.
