Exhausted Biden Pleads for Rest in Candid Talk with Governors
President Biden acknowledged his need for more sleep and fewer work hours, including a reduction in evening events, during a meeting with Democratic governors, insiders revealed. The 81-year-old President’s remarks on Wednesday, intending to assure his core supporters of his capabilities, starkly admitted fatigue, particularly highlighted during a recent debate with former President Donald J. Trump.
Biden’s statements followed a New York Times report noting increased lapses by the President. Despite this, he reaffirmed his commitment to the 2024 presidential race, attributing his debate performance to extensive foreign travel and a cold.
During the meeting, Biden emphasized to his staff the importance of more rest and a lighter schedule, aiming to avoid post-8 p.m. events. His statement that “It’s just my brain,” responding to Hawaii Gov. Josh Green’s health query, was perceived humorously by some but not all participants. Campaign Chair Jen O’Malley Dillon insisted Biden was joking.
Biden’s pre-debate period involved foreign trips followed by debate preparations, factoring into his need for rest. He reassured campaign aides of his continued candidacy, although governors expressed concern over the lack of debate on his campaign’s future.
In an interview aired on a Milwaukee radio station, Biden admitted to having “a bad night” during the debate, acknowledging his mistake. Post-debate, Biden consulted his physician due to the cold, confirmed by White House spokesman Andrew Bates, though Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre later stated Biden hadn’t had a medical checkup since February, conflicting with earlier reports.
Biden’s acknowledgment of fatigue comes amid increased scrutiny of his capability to continue as a strong contender in the next presidential race.
