Delhi’s Traffic Turmoil: IMD Warns of Torrential Rain Across States – Stay Safe!
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast extensive heavy rainfall across north and northeast India over the next five days. In Delhi, Thursday’s rainfall caused considerable traffic disruptions. The IMD reported rainfall measurements from various locations: Safdarjung at 9.2 mm, Lodhi Road at 7.4 mm, Ridge at 5.6 mm, Palam at 17.4 mm, and Ayanagar at 40.8 mm. The forecast for the Delhi-NCR region predicts a generally cloudy sky with light to moderate rain and thunderstorms until July 10.
The southwest monsoon has wholly covered India six days ahead of the usual date, despite delays in mid-June. Meanwhile, Assam is grappling with worsening flood conditions, affecting over 1.65 million people across 29 districts and resulting in 48 deaths. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will assess the flood-affected areas in Guwahati.
The IMD’s latest bulletin warns of significant rainfall in several parts of the country. Uttarakhand and northeastern states, including Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, can expect isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall. Assam and Meghalaya might face extremely heavy rainfall from July 4 to 6. East and Northeast India will see widespread light to moderate rain, with heavy rainfall forecasted for Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and East Rajasthan from July 4 to 8.
Southern India’s weather features widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms over Kerala, Mahe, Lakshadweep, Coastal Karnataka, Konkan and Goa, and Gujarat. Specific areas such as Madhya Maharashtra, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Interior Karnataka can also expect varying rainfall intensities. Isolated heavy rainfall is projected for Konkan, Goa, and Karnataka State until July 8.
The IMD continues to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary.
