Urgent Plea: Pradyot Demands Justice Against Heart-Wrenching Minority Persecution in Bangladesh
Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma Calls for Indian Government’s Intervention Over Minority Persecution in Bangladesh

Agartala, 26th September 2024: Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, the royal scion and founder of Tipra Motha, delivered a compelling speech at a Mega Solidarity Rally, urging the Indian government to address the persecution of minority communities in Bangladesh. His statements have ignited discussions about India’s historical and ongoing role in the region.
Debbarma, drawing on his royal lineage, deplored the attacks on minorities in Bangladesh, citing the destruction of religious sites and violence against individuals. He highlighted Tripura’s historical tradition of religious harmony, contrasting it with the increasing intolerance in Bangladesh. “Our culture in Tripura, which once embraced a diversity of beliefs, is under threat as our people in Bangladesh face increasing persecution,” he declared.
He pointed out the stark difference between Tripura’s rich cultural heritage and the current situation in Bangladesh. “The tradition of Tripura is one of unity and respect for all faiths. Yet, we witness a troubling disregard for this ethos across the border,” Debbarma said, urging Indian citizens to unite in response, regardless of their religion.
Debbarma also warned about the rising anti-India sentiments in Bangladesh, expressing concerns over potential territorial claims on Northeast India and Tripura. “It is crucial for us to stand together and demand accountability from our government, ensuring the safety of our fellow citizens and those in neighboring countries,” he emphasized.
Reflecting on India’s historical friendship with Bangladesh, he noted that the current leadership under Sheikh Hasina does not share the same rapport with India as her father, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, did. Debbarma concluded by stressing that India could potentially reshape its borders if the situation for minorities in Bangladesh doesn’t improve, invoking the legacies of Indian leaders like Mahatma Gandhi and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.
The rally underscored the urgent issues faced by minorities in Bangladesh and reinforced the historical ties and responsibilities India has towards its neighbor.
