Shock and Awe: Excise Department Seizes Truck With Rs 11.5 Lakh Worth of Liquor in Sonitpur
In a significant late-night operation, the Sonitpur Excise Department successfully intercepted a truck loaded with a considerable amount of liquor at the Chardwara forest gate checkpoint. Acting on a tip-off, authorities seized the vehicle, which was identified by its registration number AS-12-E-0246, as it was traveling from Arunachal Pradesh.
The excise team uncovered a new and sophisticated smuggling technique. The truck’s cabin had been intricately modified to conceal 127 cartons of liquor from Arunachal Pradesh, an effort clearly designed to evade detection. This clever ruse, however, did not deter the vigilant excise officers who promptly seized both the vehicle and the contraband.
The seized alcohol, valued at approximately Rs 11.5 lakh, highlights the persistent issue of illegal liquor supply in the region. The operation underscores the excise department’s unwavering commitment to curbing such illicit activities. Authorities have launched an in-depth investigation to trace the origins of the smuggled liquor and identify the individuals behind the smuggling network.
This raid adds to a series of successful crackdowns by law enforcement agencies aiming to dismantle illegal liquor distribution channels. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
