Heartwarming Initiative: Assam Government Empowers 200 Lives with Free Hearing Aids
Financially Disadvantaged Individuals in Assam Benefit from Free Hearing Aid Camp
In a significant move to support economically disadvantaged citizens, 200 individuals from Assam, including children with hearing impairments, were provided free hearing aids at a camp organized by the Deen Dayal Sravana Foundation in collaboration with the state’s National Health Mission (NHM). The event took place at the Assam Water Centre in Basistha, Guwahati, attended by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The beneficiaries hailed from Kamrup Metropolitan, Kamrup, Morigaon, and Nalbari districts. The initiative is part of a broader campaign, with another 200 individuals from Bongaigaon, Chirang, Kokrajhar, and Goalpara scheduled to receive hearing aids on September 26. This first phase aims to assist a total of 400 individuals.
The distribution event coincides with the 109th birth anniversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, known for his Antyodaya concept that focuses on the upliftment of society’s most marginalized people. Chief Minister Sarma emphasized the necessity of empowering every individual to achieve true societal progress, aligning with Pandit Upadhyaya’s philosophy of Integral Humanism.
CM Sarma expressed gratitude to Regula Ramanjaneyulu, founder and chairman of the Deen Dayal Sravana Foundation, and acknowledged the contributions of all stakeholders, including Coal India Limited. He congratulated the hearing aid recipients and thanked everyone involved in the initiative.
Highlighting the broader context, CM Sarma referenced World Health Organization (WHO) data, stating that approximately 3.40 crore children globally and 6.30 crore people in India are significantly affected by hearing impairments. Furthermore, about 30 percent of individuals over the age of 60 experience a loss of hearing ability.
This initiative underscores the concerted efforts by the Deen Dayal Sravana Foundation and NHM to provide critical health resources to underserved populations in Assam.
