Scorching Heat Grips Dibrugarh: Assam’s Unprecedented Weather Sparks Urgent Concerns
Record Heatwave Strikes Dibrugarh, Sparking Health Concerns and Power Cuts
Dibrugarh, typically known for its pleasant climate, is grappling with an unprecedented heatwave as temperatures soared to a record-breaking 39.5°C on Monday. This extreme weather has caused widespread discomfort and health issues among the residents.
In response to the intense heat, the Dibrugarh district administration has adjusted school timings to protect students. Many locals are resorting to umbrellas and refreshing drinks to mitigate the heat’s effects. This sudden climate change is believed to be a result of global warming and deforestation.
"We have never witnessed such extreme weather in Dibrugarh before," noted Ankit Singh, a local resident. "The pleasant climate we’re accustomed to has been replaced by heatwaves, and the temperature has reached as high as 39.5°C."
Adding to the residents’ woes, frequent power cuts have exacerbated the situation. Tapash Das, another resident, expressed frustration, stating, "The power department has failed to provide adequate electricity during peak hours, making our situation even worse."
The district administration has urged residents to stay hydrated, avoid direct sunlight, and check on the elderly and vulnerable individuals to cope with the heatwave. As this severe weather continues, concerns about its potential impacts on public health and infrastructure are mounting.
