Justice Served: 15 Suspects in BSP Leader Armstrong’s Brutal Murder Detained under Goondas Act
Chennai Police Detain 15 Suspects in BSP Leader’s Murder Under Goondas Act
The Greater Chennai City Police have detained 15 individuals implicated in the murder of BSP leader K. Armstrong under the stringent Goondas Act, ensuring they cannot seek bail for a year. City Police Commissioner A. Arun issued the detention orders. Armstrong was brutally hacked to death on Venugopalaswamy Street in Perambur on July 5, allegedly by a gang led by ‘Ponnai’ Balu to avenge the murder of Balu’s brother, ‘Arcot’ Suresh, last year.
The Sembium Police launched an investigation based on a complaint from Armstrong’s brother. Following the incident, Commissioner Arun, who had just assumed his role, assigned a special team to the case. So far, 27 suspects, including ‘Ponnai’ Balu and three women, have been arrested.
The latest detainees under the Goondas Act include individuals from varied localities such as Old Washermenpet, Triplicane, Thirunindravur, and Kodambakkam. Notably, Ponnai Balu and nine others had already been detained shortly after the murder.
