New Delhi: Rising controversies around the alleged abuse of disability certificates in the IAS selection process have put two officers in the spotlight. Puja Khedkar, a 2023 batch trainee IAS officer, is accused of submitting fake disability certificates to secure her position. Abhishek Singh, a 2011 batch IAS officer who resigned last year to pursue an acting career, has faced scrutiny following the viral spread of his dance and gym videos. Critics have challenged his claim of having a locomotor disability, which he cited to gain concessions during the UPSC selection process. Responding to the accusations via social media, Singh asserted that he’s being targeted for supporting job reservations and emphasized his career accomplishments as a result of hard work and not reservations.
"I’ve always supported reservations in government jobs to mirror population demographics, and my success in various fields stands on my talent and courage,” Singh posted.
Meanwhile, Puja Khedkar has drawn significant attention for reportedly avoiding mandatory medical tests to substantiate her claims of being visually and mentally impaired. This controversy follows prior issues, including her use of a siren on her private Audi and demanding privileges beyond her rank. The government has established a one-member committee to investigate these allegations. Should Khedkar be found guilty of misrepresentation, she faces possible dismissal and criminal charges.
