India’s equity benchmark indices closed with modest gains after achieving record highs during intra-day trade. This positive movement followed the US Federal Reserve’s decision to cut interest rates by 50 basis points. The Sensex closed up by 236 points, or 0.2 percent, settling at 83,184. Meanwhile, the NSE Nifty showed a slight increase of 38 points, or 0.1 percent, ending at 25,415.
The Indian rupee also appreciated, closing seven paise stronger at 83.68 against the US dollar. Concurrently, the dollar index, which measures the US dollar’s strength against a basket of six other major currencies, was trading at 100.67 during intra-day trade.
