Reunited at Last! 17 Stranded Persons from Uttarakhand Triumphantly Return to Chennai; 13 More Await Heartwarming Homecoming
Chidambaram Resident Survives Uttarakhand Landslip, Returns Home Safely
September 14 was a day that 61-year-old K. Kanakarajan from Chidambaram will never forget. The pilgrim, who traveled to Uttarakhand with a group of 30 others, narrowly escaped a landslip while en route from Tawaghat to Dharchula. Reflecting on the incident, Kanakarajan expressed disbelief at their survival and safe return home. The group faced significant challenges due to heavy rainfall and landslips, which left them stranded in Budhi village. Seeking assistance from the Tamil Nadu government, they were eventually airlifted by helicopter to Dharchula and then to New Delhi.
The group received aid from the Army, which provided food and assistance, including carrying injured members like Kanakarajan during the final leg of their journey. Once in New Delhi, the Tamil Nadu government arranged their return to Chennai. Of the 30 travelers, 17 opted to fly back, landing in Chennai on Tuesday morning, while the remaining 13 are expected to arrive by train on Wednesday afternoon. Three Ministers are anticipated to receive them at Egmore.
N. Subramaniam, a 76-year-old member of the group, lauded the support they received, describing the journey as perilous and stressing the relief they felt upon reaching New Delhi. The coordinated efforts of the Army and the Tamil Nadu government were instrumental in ensuring their safe return, a gesture Subramaniam vows never to forget.
