Monday, September 16, 2024: While lottery games are prohibited in most Indian states, they remain legal in 13 states, including Nagaland, Assam, Mizoram, Kerala, Meghalaya, Manipur, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Goa, West Bengal, and Sikkim. Established in 1972, the Nagaland State Lottery aims to generate a stable source of revenue for the state government. The lotteries are held thrice daily—morning, day, and evening—each featuring different names and prize amounts. The top prize for these lotteries is Rs 1 crore, with tickets priced at Rs 6 each. Popular daily lotteries include Dear Morning, Dear Day, and Dear Evening.
The Director of Nagaland State Lotteries oversees the operations, with draws occurring at P. R. Hill Junction, Kohima. For claims, winners must present a lottery claim form, the undamaged original ticket, a government-approved photo ID, and passport-sized photos. Tickets showing signs of tampering or damage are invalid.
Distributors, stockists, agents, and sellers are authorized to pay prizes up to Rs 10,000 on behalf of the state government. Claims exceeding this amount must be submitted within 30 days of the draw date to the Director of Nagaland State Lotteries or the Nodal Office in the respective state. Winners need to present the duly signed original ticket and relevant documents to receive payments within 60 days.
