Urgent Call: HC Demands Immediate Action to Restore Vital Water Channel Opposite GRH
The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has requested a detailed plan to restore a water channel opposite Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai. This move follows a public interest litigation petition by M. Paneerselvam, who urged authorities to clean up the channel, which is blocked by garbage, debris, and sewage. Paneerselvam emphasized that the government is responsible for desilting and clearing the channel. He also highlighted issues of encroachment and called for their removal to return the channel to its original state.
A Division Bench comprising Justices G.R. Swaminathan and B. Pugalendhi has instructed the counsel to submit a memo outlining necessary remedial actions. The case has been adjourned until September 19 for further proceedings.
