Tripura’s Digital Healthcare Model Wins National Recognition
Tripura’s innovative digital healthcare model has garnered national recognition at a high-level review meeting convened by the Union Health Ministry in New Delhi. The conference, which concluded on Friday with representatives from states and Union territories across the country, reviewed the ongoing progress of key national flagship programs, including Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY and the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission.
During the meeting, the state showcased its end-to-end digital health ecosystem, drawing widespread appreciation from central health authorities. A pilot project launched two months ago at Dr Syama Prasad Mukherjee Civil Hospital has demonstrated significant success, enabling patients to navigate their entire medical journey-from initial registration and doctor consultations to e-prescriptions, diagnostic investigations, and laboratory tests-via a streamlined digital interface.
According to Health Secretary Kiran Gitte, the Union Health Ministry commended Tripura’s rapid adoption of digital healthcare infrastructure. Gitte highlighted that the state has already secured 100 percent coverage for Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) ID generation across all public health facilities. He added that the administration is actively working to integrate private healthcare institutions into the network within the next two months to create an interconnected and accessible medical data environment for citizens.
In a major step toward modernizing patient care, the state government is preparing to transition its hospitals into completely paperless facilities starting November 10. Under this initiative, routine manual workflows, including outpatient department registrations, prescription writing, lab test orders, and medical reports, will shift entirely to secured digital platforms.
The digital transition aims to eliminate bureaucratic delays, significantly reduce reliance on physical paperwork, streamline patient management, and foster institutional transparency. The overhaul forms part of the Health and Family Welfare Department’s broader implementation of the Integrated Health Management Information System, designed to enhance administrative oversight, coordination, and continuous monitoring of patient care services statewide.
