Assam-Mizoram Border Festival at Vairengte Boosts Inter-State Ties
The Inter-State Border Festival, jointly organized by the governments of Mizoram and Assam through Kolasib and Cachar districts, was celebrated with enthusiasm at the Joint YMA Field in Vairengte, bringing together officials, elected representatives, sportspersons, and cultural groups from both states to promote friendship, cooperation, and peaceful coexistence.
The event was co-chaired by B. Malsawmtluangi, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Kolasib, and Lalmuanpuia, Project Director, DRDO.
A large delegation from Assam, comprising government officials, athletes, and cultural performers, participated in the celebrations. The delegation was led by Dholai MLA Amio Kanti Das, Cachar Deputy Commissioner Rahul Kumar Gupta, IAS, and Cachar Superintendent of Police Partha Protim Das, IPS.
Speaking as the Chief Guest, Mizoram Deputy Speaker and Kolasib MLA Lalfamkima expressed hope that the festival would foster stronger ties between the two neighboring states. “Although we are separated by administrative borders, our cooperation and peaceful coexistence must not deteriorate. We need to work together for our mutual benefit,” he said.
Lalfamkima also observed that differences in culture, traditions, lifestyles, and religious practices should not become obstacles to maintaining cordial relations. He called for greater collaboration across sectors including culture, sports, trade, agriculture, and youth development.
Amio Kanti Das described the festival as an important platform for strengthening the spirit of brotherhood between Assam and Mizoram. He said closer cooperation between the two neighboring states would also contribute to the overall development of the Northeast.
Cachar DC Rahul Kumar Gupta stressed the importance of cultural and sporting exchanges in bringing communities closer, particularly among younger generations.
Cultural troupes from Cachar and Kolasib presented traditional dance performances, while artists entertained the gathering with musical performances. Sports events including badminton, futsal, table tennis, and volleyball were organized to promote friendship among participants.
Stalls showcasing locally produced goods and products were set up by ATMA and the Mizoram State Rural Livelihoods Mission, providing an opportunity to highlight local products and livelihood initiatives.
