Guwahati: Hotel Owner and Lessee Clash Over Lease Dispute
A fresh dispute over a hotel lease has surfaced in Guwahati’s Kachari Basti, echoing the tensions that followed the recent conflict linked to Hotel Bilas Inn. The disagreement involves hotel owner Pradip Thakuria, a resident of Kachari Basti, and Pintu Das, who had taken the property on lease, with both parties levelling serious allegations against each other over unpaid rent and the terms of their agreement.
According to Thakuria, Das has failed to pay rent for the past three months. The hotel owner claimed that rent payments have not been made regularly, which he says led to the ongoing conflict between the two parties.
Das, however, has offered a sharply different account of the arrangement. The lessee has accused Thakuria of harassing him and demanding additional money beyond the agreed terms. He has reportedly claimed that he deposited Rs 8 lakh as security when he took the property on lease.
The conflicting claims have only intensified the dispute, with both parties presenting starkly different versions of the financial arrangement between them. The contradictory accounts have made it difficult to establish the facts of the case independently.
The development comes at a sensitive time, amid heightened public attention on lease-related conflicts in Guwahati. The deadly shooting at Hotel Bilas Inn, which reportedly stemmed from a dispute over property management, has put the spotlight on similar disagreements across the city, raising concerns about how such conflicts are being handled.
Further details regarding the exact terms of the lease agreement and whether any formal complaint has been lodged in connection with the Kachari Basti dispute are awaited.
