Patient Dies as Tripura Air Ambulance Makes Emergency Landing in Dhaka
An air ambulance carrying a patient and six other people from Agartala to Kolkata was forced to make an emergency landing at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka after its door reportedly opened mid-flight, according to information available on Monday, October 19.
The patient, identified as Anjana Bhowmik, was admitted to Kurmitola General Hospital in Dhaka following the unscheduled landing, sources at Agartala’s MBB airport said. She was subsequently declared dead by doctors, the sources added.
The aircraft, operated by SKB Infracon Private Limited, had seven people on board at the time of the incident — the patient, a doctor, a paramedic, two attendants and two pilots.
Those accompanying the patient were named as Dr Firoz Khan, paramedic Azim Khan, and attendants Shanta Bhowmik and Deep Jyoti Mishra. The air ambulance was piloted by Captain Punya Anup, with Captain Tanuj Sharma serving as co-pilot.
According to preliminary information, the pilots diverted the aircraft and brought it down at the Dhaka airport after the door reportedly opened during the journey from the Tripura capital. The pilots and the people accompanying the patient were reported to be safe.
The emergency diversion left the aircraft short of its intended destination of Kolkata, where the patient was being flown for medical care. Further details about the circumstances that led to the door opening mid-flight were awaited as investigations into the incident continue.
