Indo-Myanmar Border Attack: Naga Village Guard Ambushed
Imphal, Manipur: A patrol team from the Eastern Command of Manipur’s Naga Village Guard (NVG-EC) was ambushed by suspected Kuki National Army-Burma (KNA-B) militants and Village Volunteers of Eastern Zone (VVEZ) near Huimin Thana along the Indo-Myanmar border on Thursday afternoon. The NVG-EC Media Cell confirmed the attack occurred around 4:30 pm during a routine patrol.
The patrol team retaliated, engaging in a gunfight that lasted approximately an hour. They successfully repelled the attackers. However, a civilian defence volunteer sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Kamjong District Hospital with the help of local residents. The attackers also suffered casualties, though the exact number remains unconfirmed.
The NVG-EC attributed the ambush to an ongoing campaign targeting Tangkhul Naga border villages. The violence began on May 7, 2026, affecting Z. Choro, Wanglee, and Namlee. The group alleged that combined KNA-B and VVEZ forces had killed four villagers at Pilong on September 24 and two civilians at Ningchou on October 10.
The NVG-EC criticized local authorities for failing to protect border residents as violence escalates. It reported that six Naga civilians have died, and there has been extensive property damage. The organization warned against further incursions and reiterated its commitment to defending Naga territory and identity. It also urged Naga youths to remain united in the face of the growing threat.
