Heartwarming News: Sikkim Introduces 100% Bus Fare Concession for PWDs and BPL Women
The Sikkim government has introduced a new policy offering 100% concession on bus fares for persons with disabilities (PWDs) possessing over 40% disability and women in the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category, according to an official notification.
The state transport department’s order, effective immediately, states this concession is available for both intra-state and inter-state bus services.
To benefit from this policy, PWDs must present a valid Unique Disability ID card issued by the Centre, confirming a disability degree of 40% or more. Similarly, women in the BPL category need to provide a BPL certificate from the Directorate of Economics, Statistics, Monitoring and Evaluation (DESME).
This initiative aims to support PWDs and underprivileged women by easing their travel expenses and enhancing accessibility.
In related news, a vigilance operation has been launched into the State Bank of Sikkim with five officials currently under investigation for bribery.
