Delhi Prepares for Light Rainfall Today: IMD Forecast Sparks Hope and Relief
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported that the monsoon trough is currently active, with its western and eastern ends near their normal positions, indicating a potential influence on rainfall distribution. According to IMD forecasts, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over several states in the coming days. Specifically, Chhattisgarh will likely see isolated heavy rainfall over the next seven days, while Madhya Maharashtra and the Konkan and Goa regions are slated for heavy rains until September 10th, extending to the 11th of September. Kerala and Mahe are also expected to experience isolated heavy rainfall until September 11th.
In Delhi, the weather is predicted to be generally cloudy with light rain anticipated on Tuesday. The city’s temperatures are forecasted to range between 34 degrees Celsius and 26 degrees Celsius.
Additionally, the IMD has warned of a ‘depression’ forming over interior Odisha, which has weakened from a deep depression and is likely to traverse north Chhattisgarh, further diminishing into a marked low-pressure area by the evening of September 10th. Following the deep depression’s landfall near Puri in Odisha, the state government has activated relief and rescue operations in the affected districts. The IMD emphasized the significance of such weather systems, which necessitate immediate and effective emergency responses to minimize potential damage and ensure public safety. According to Manorama Mohanty, Director of the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, the landfall occurred between 10:30 am and 11:30 am with wind speeds of 55-65 km/hour.
A ‘red alert’ has been issued for 10 districts, including Ganjam, Kadhamal, Nayagarh, Khurda, Bolangir, Boudh, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nawarangpur, and Puri, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall until 8:30 am on Tuesday. Heavy rain is also anticipated in isolated parts of Cuttack, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, and Sonepur during this period. Fishermen have been advised against venturing into the sea until September 11th.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, in coordination with Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari, has directed senior officials and district collectors in Malkangiri and Koraput to oversee and aid local relief efforts.
