Boeing and the labor union representing 33,000 of its workers have reached a tentative labor agreement, averting a potential strike. The deal, which must be approved by workers, includes a 25% pay raise over four years, improved health-care costs, and enhanced retirement benefits. Additionally, it commits Boeing to build its next airplane in the Pacific Northwest. This agreement is a significant win for new CEO Kelly Ortberg, who aims to stabilize the company amidst ongoing safety and quality issues. The union emphasized the importance of the workers in revitalizing Boeing, stating, “It is IAM members who will bring this company back on track.” A vote on the agreement is scheduled for September 12, just before the current contract expires.
