Central security forces and the Manipur Police said on Wednesday they uncovered a temporary insurgent camp in Imphal East after a series of coordinated operations over the previous 36 hours that led to the arrest of four alleged underground cadres. Acting on disclosures made by the arrested suspects, forces intensified searches in the foothills of Seijang Cheirao Ching and recovered a substantial cache of weapons, ammunition, explosives and communication equipment from the hideout.
The items recovered included one .303 rifle with a magazine, three 12-bore single-barrel guns, one .22 rifle, one anti‑riot gun, three mortar shells, two No. 36 hand grenades, 43 live rounds of ammunition of various calibres, three tear smoke grenades, five wireless sets and one AK rifle magazine. Authorities said the haul points to the site being used as a temporary staging and storage location.
In separate operations, police arrested two men alleged to be cadres of the Socialist Revolutionary Party (SOREPA) from Nungoo Lamkhai under Sugnu Police Station in Kakching district. They were identified as Marcus Thiyam, also known as Tompok (22), and Heikrujam William Meitei (22), both residents of Khongyam Makha Leikai in Kakching.
Police also detained an alleged member of the proscribed Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF), the political wing of the banned People’s Liberation Army (PLA). He was identified as Yendrembam Athouba Meitei, also known as Atomba or Takhelngamba (21), of Moreh Premnagar Ward No. 4 in Tengnoupal district; he was apprehended at an abandoned house in New Lambulane under Porompat Police Station.
In a further action, an alleged extortionist and cadre of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party–Meeyamgi Feengang Lanmi (KCP‑MFL) was arrested. Police named him as Yensenbam Chandrasen Meitei, alias Pase (52), apprehended from Langdum Lamkhai under Irilbung Police Station.
Police said the arrested individuals are suspected of involvement in extortion across the valley districts and that investigations remain ongoing. In this context, “cadre” refers to individuals accused of active membership or operational roles within underground or proscribed groups, and “proscribed” denotes organizations banned under law. Authorities have not released further details about charges or court proceedings.
