Shocking: Esteemed Doctor Arrested for Allegedly Assaulting Girl Students at Coimbatore Government School
Doctor Arrested for Sexual Assault of Schoolgirls in Coimbatore District
Coimbatore District Police have detained S. Saravanamoorthy, a doctor associated with Isha Foundation’s mobile medical services, on charges of sexually assaulting over five girl students at a government school during a medical camp. The arrest followed a complaint lodged by the school’s headmistress.
Saravanamoorthy, 28, from Tirupattur district, served in outreach medical services provided by the foundation in rural Coimbatore. The alleged assaults surfaced during a student meeting from Classes VI to X, organized after a video conference by Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam addressing sexual harassment and safety in educational institutions.
During the meeting, over five students accused Saravanamoorthy of inappropriate touching during the medical camp, alleging that he did not use a stethoscope and acted with ill intentions. The school officials reported these allegations to the District Child Welfare Committee (CWC), which prompted an inquiry and subsequent police action.
The police registered a case against the doctor at the All Women Police Station, Perur, under Sections 9(e) and 10 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, leading to his arrest late Thursday. Saravanamoorthy was presented in court on Friday and remanded to judicial custody.
Isha Foundation issued a statement confirming awareness of the case and reaffirming its zero-tolerance policy towards crimes against women and children. They stated their cooperation with the police investigation and commitment to legal protocols.
