Husband-Wife Held with Contraband in Meghalaya Anti-Infiltration Drive
Two people were arrested and suspected heroin seized during an anti-infiltration operation by the Anti‑Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) and AID in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district on Monday. Security personnel recovered 116 vials of what is believed to be heroin from a couple identified as Rahim Ali, 43, and his wife Jaibanu, 35, and registered a case at Sadar Police Station.
The Office of the Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, said teams checked 35 individuals as part of the drive to curb illegal infiltration and drug trafficking. Several people fled the area when personnel arrived. The 35 who were verified produced identity and residence documents issued by different states; those documents will be sent to the respective authorities for confirmation.
The seized contraband weighed 14.42 grams and was confiscated in the presence of an independent witness, police said. A case numbered 242(7)2026 under sections 21(b) and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered, and further investigation is underway. Section 21(b) deals with possession of controlled substances and section 29 pertains to punishment and procedural provisions under the NDPS law.
Police said the anti‑infiltration and anti‑narcotics drives will continue as part of ongoing efforts to prevent illegal entry and drug distribution in the region.
