On Saturday, former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and his son Aaditya Thackeray visited Mumbai’s famed Lalbaugcha Raja to offer prayers during the auspicious occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi. A video released by ANI showcased the Thackeray family, including Uddhav’s wife Rashmi Thackeray, navigating through the throngs of devotees to reach the stage where the Ganesha idol was placed.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde chose to observe the festival at his residence. He extended his best wishes to the public, remarking on the eagerly awaited Ganesh Utsav, which has now commenced. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was also seen performing Ganpati Puja at his home.
Ganesh Chaturthi 2024 celebrations kicked off on September 7 and will culminate after ten days on September 16. Massive crowds marked the start of the festival at Mumbai’s oldest pandal, Lalbaugcha Raja, with devotees flocking to seek blessings. Bollywood actor Kartik Aaryan was among those spotted at the pandal.
Several other prominent Ganpati pandals in Mumbai include Khetwadicha Ganraj, Ganesh Galli Mumbaicha Raja, Andhericha Raja, and Chinchpoklicha Chintamani. The first look of Lalbaugcha Raja for this year was unveiled on September 5. Notably, this year’s celebrations are graced by a 20-kg gold crown gifted by Anant Ambani and the Reliance Foundation, adorning the majestic Lord Ganesha at Lalbaugcha Raja. The crafting of this gold crown reportedly took over two months.
Additionally, Delhi will host its own version of Lalbaugcha Raja in Burari, bringing the iconic celebration to the capital city as well.
This Ganesh Chaturthi in Maharashtra saw not only a fusion of devotion and grandeur but also distinguished participation from political leaders and celebrities, reflecting the festival’s deep cultural significance.
