Historic Milestone: Third CM Secretariat in Barak Valley Elevates Assam’s Administrative Efficiency
Assam Government Plans New Secretariat in Barak Valley to Enhance Decentralization
Guwahati, Sept 7: The Assam government has unveiled plans to establish another Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Barak Valley as part of its ongoing efforts to decentralize governance across the state. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pijush Hazarika made this announcement on Saturday, following the inauguration of a new CM’s Secretariat in Dibrugarh by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday.
Minister Hazarika emphasized that the government has consistently taken significant steps toward decentralization over the years. "Soon, a secretariat will also be established in Barak Valley," he posted on a microblogging site on September 7. Hazarika pointed out that the strategic distribution of secretariats across key locations in Assam aims to reduce the dependency on Dispur for government-related work.
The inauguration event in Dibrugarh was attended by notable figures, including former Chief Minister and Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, along with cabinet ministers and MLAs. The new Dibrugarh Secretariat will function four days a month, addressing concerns from nine districts in Upper Assam: Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Sivasagar, Charaideo, Majuli, Jorhat, and Golaghat.
Chief Minister Sarma outlined the operational plan for the Dibrugarh office, stating, "Whenever we visit the Dibrugarh CM’s office, we will dedicate three hours to each district in the region, holding discussions with Block Development Officers (BDOs), District Commissioners (DCs), MLAs, Circle Officers (COs), and officers in charge of police stations, among others, on important matters related to the well-being of the people."
The implementation of the Dibrugarh Secretariat and the upcoming establishment in Barak Valley underscores the government’s commitment to bringing governance closer to the people, thus making administrative processes more efficient and accessible.
