NSPS Announces Bhasa Gaurav and Sewashree Samman Recipients — Revealed
The Nepali Sahitya Parishad Sikkim (NSPS) has announced the recipients of its 2026 language and cultural honours, naming Tashi Bhutia of Gyalshing and NimDorjee Lepcha of Pakyong as this year’s Bhasa Gaurav Samman awardees. NSPS president Hari Dhungel said the awards will be presented during the 212th Bhanu Jayanti celebration on July 13 in Gangtok, where the Parishad will also confer other literary and cultural distinctions.
Tashi Bhutia and NimDorjee Lepcha were selected for their contributions to the Bhutia and Lepcha languages and literatures respectively. The Parishad highlighted their work as part of ongoing efforts to recognise and preserve Sikkim’s linguistic diversity.
The Bhanu Puraskar for 2026 has been awarded to Suk Raj Subba of Soreng. In addition, NSPS released the list of Sewashree Samman recipients across disciplines: in the language category, Kamal Kafle and S.M. Basnet will receive the Bhasa Sewashree Samman, while Jaydeep Subba has been chosen for the Sahitya Sewashree Samman in literature.
Awards in the performing and visual arts include Jeevan Sharma and Rakesh Karki Dholi for music, Puran Deep Sharma and Rewati Lepcha for drama, Dhiraj Bantawa and Kavita Sharma for journalism, B.K. Subba for painting, and Anu Pradhan for dance.
NSPS said this year’s Bhanu Jayanti will be observed under the theme “Bhasa Hamro Sabhyata, Bhesbhusa Hamro Sanskriti” (Language our civilization, language and dress our culture). The July 13 programme will be held in two phases, beginning with floral tributes at the statue of Bhanu Bhakta Acharya in Bhanu Udyan, Gangtok, followed by the award presentation ceremony.
