Security agencies seized about 7.051 kg of suspected heroin and arrested two men in Imphal East district on July 1, following a targeted anti-narcotics operation between Kongpal Chingangbam and Khurai Lamlong under Porompat Police Station. The seizure and arrests were made after a vehicle was intercepted during the operation.
Police said a joint team-comprising the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), Imphal East; Youth Against Drugs and Alcohol Manipur (YADAM); the M&N Sector Quick Action Team (QAT); Range Imphal QAT; and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF)—carried out the action based on specific intelligence. The operation was led by Assistant Sub-Inspector M. Rinash Meitei with supervision from Additional Superintendent of Police (Law and Order), Ak Sadananda Singh, MPS, and overall oversight by Superintendent of Police, Imphal East, Shivanand Surve, IPS.
The team intercepted a Mahindra Bolero with registration number MN03P-5733 on Kongpal Chingangbam Road after its occupants allegedly tried to evade police. The two men in the vehicle were identified as 21-year-old Bigyan Baniya of Tuilangphai, Kangpokpi district, and 27-year-old Manoj Chettry of Kohima Sadar, Nagaland.
A detailed search recovered 168 soap cases containing suspected Heroin No. 4, with an approximate gross weight of 7.051 kilograms including packaging. The suspected narcotic and the vehicle were seized, and both suspects were arrested and handed over to Porompat Police Station for case registration and legal proceedings.
Police said further investigation is underway to trace the source of the consignment and identify other individuals linked to the alleged trafficking network. The operation is part of ongoing efforts by security forces to disrupt drug supply routes in the region.
