Assam Cabinet Minister Atul Bora on July 1 attended a high-level review meeting in Dhemaji ahead of a scheduled visit by Union Ministers Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Kiren Rijiju, who are due to assess the prevailing flood situation and review the extent of damage in the district. The meeting brought together political and administrative leaders to coordinate preparedness and ongoing flood response work.
Sharing the update on X, Bora said the discussions focused on readiness for the Union Ministers’ visit and on strengthening the district’s current flood-response measures. Officials reviewed arrangements for damage assessment, relief distribution and any immediate rehabilitation needs.
The meeting included Assam Minister Ranoj Pegu, Lakhimpur MP Pradan Baruah, and MLAs Bhuban Pegu and Jibon Gogoi. Representatives from local autonomous bodies also participated: Paramananda Chayengia, Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Mising Autonomous Council; Mininiswar Basumatary, CEM of the Bodo Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council; and Tankeswar Sonowal, CEM of the Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council.
Senior district officials — including the Deputy Commissioner and the Senior Superintendent of Police — attended, alongside other top administrators. Office-bearers from the BJP, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the Sonowal Kachari Students’ Association (SGSA) were also present to coordinate local relief and recovery efforts.
The visiting Union Ministers are expected to inspect flood-affected areas on the ground, assess damage caused by the recent floods, and evaluate the relief and rehabilitation measures being implemented in Dhemaji district. Their findings are likely to shape further central and state-level support for affected communities.
