Dramatic CRPF Rescue in Manipur: Two Saved After Car Skids on NH-2
Personnel of the 112 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) rescued two civilians on the night of June 30, 2026, after their A-Star car skidded to the unstable edge of a deep gorge along National Highway-2 (NH-2) in Kangpokpi district, Manipur. The vehicle came to a precarious halt near Changoubung village at about 7:30 pm, narrowly avoiding a fatal plunge.
The CRPF team, returning from deployment between Changoubung and T. Khullen, spotted the stranded car and immediately rushed to the scene. The stretch where the incident occurred is under highway construction, which reportedly contributed to the hazardous road conditions.
Acting swiftly, the jawans (CRPF personnel) launched a coordinated rescue using ropes, teamwork and physical effort to secure the vehicle and prevent it from sliding further into the gorge. They managed to pull the car back onto the highway and evacuate both occupants safely.
The rescued were identified as Leishiyo Naga and another resident of Senapati district. Both sustained only minor injuries and were treated after the rescue; the vehicle was also recovered without further damage.
The timely intervention by the 112 Battalion averted what could have been a deadly accident and underscored the force’s role in public safety and humanitarian assistance beyond its law-and-order duties, particularly on sections of NH-2 affected by ongoing construction.
