Tragic Case: Missing 5-Year-Old Found Dead in Baksa; Mother Detained
A five-year-old boy, identified as Rwnbir Singh Boro, was found dead in Dirringapur village under Barbari Police Station in Baksa district, Assam, and police have taken his mother, Neosi Boro, into custody for questioning after preliminary inquiries suggested she may have been involved, officials said. The body was discovered on Saturday evening (June 27), the day before the report was filed in Kokrajhar on June 28.
The incident came to light when the child’s father returned from working in the fields at about 5:30 pm and found Rwnbir missing. “The father returned home around 5.30 pm after working in the fields. When he could not find his son, he and his elder daughter searched across the village but were unable to trace him,” a resident said.
The father later searched around the house with a torch and found his son lying nearby with severe injuries, the resident added. Police recovered the body and sent it to Mushalpur Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Family members told police that Neosi had been undergoing treatment for mental health issues. A resident familiar with the family said the father suspects his wife because she had been receiving treatment for mental illness, according to statements given to investigators.
A team from Barbari Police Station reached the scene, detained Neosi for questioning and are examining statements from family members and other available evidence. Authorities have not yet issued an official statement and investigators said the probe is ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
