Wangsu Demands Urgent Enforcement of LM Acts and Rules
NAHARLAGUN, June 27 — Legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs Minister Gabriel D. Wangsu urged department enforcement officers to strictly implement the provisions of the Legal Metrology Acts and Rules across all districts and to “expedite the enforcement works by mobile inspection team at zonal level,” speaking at a review meeting of the LM&CA Department held on Friday, June 26, in Naharlagun.
Wangsu said the department must evolve its methods and tools so field officers can respond to the “continuous changing dynamics of the business communities in the market.” He called for structured training programmes, including study visits to other states to learn and adopt best practices, and asked officers to promptly handle and dispose of cases arising from establishment inspections and enforcement activities.
LM&CA Secretary Mige Kamki urged staff to become self-reliant in office work by training on essential office applications. He stressed the need for district officials to work cohesively to meet the annual revenue targets set by the state government, noting that these targets will be reflected in an officer’s APAR (Annual Performance Appraisal Report).
LM&CA Controller Minte Siga asked attendees to actively contribute to the review session to help draw a roadmap for the department’s welfare, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a peaceful and friendly office atmosphere to support departmental efficiency going forward. Assistant Controller (HQ) Gamkhong Singpho also addressed the meeting.
The review was attended by LM&CA Under Secretary Kipa Yakum, deputy controllers, assistant controllers, inspectors and other departmental officers, who were urged to prioritise enforcement, training and inter-district coordination to strengthen consumer protection and ensure accurate weights and measures statewide.
