A 26-year-old woman police constable, identified as Dipamoni Hira, was found dead at her rented accommodation in the Panikhaiti area of Guwahati on Sunday, officials said. Hira was posted at Panikhaiti Police Station.
According to preliminary information, Hira had been living alone in the rented house for the past three years. Her husband, who lives in Nagaon, became worried after repeated attempts to contact her on Sunday morning went unanswered.
The husband informed the house owner and asked that the situation be checked. The owner later entered the premises and discovered Hira’s body inside the room before alerting the police.
Police reached the scene and launched an investigation. Authorities said a note was recovered from the location, but officials have not disclosed its contents.
The body will be sent for a post-mortem examination in the presence of a magistrate to determine the cause of death. Forensic experts and senior police officers visited the scene as part of the inquiry.
The circumstances surrounding Hira’s death remain unclear and further investigation is underway.
