Massive Landslide in Dima Hasao, Assam Halts Jatinga–Silchar NH
Vehicular movement along the Jatinga–Silchar National Highway came to a complete standstill on June 21 after a major landslide struck Jatinga in Assam’s Dima Hasao district, blocking the road and halting traffic. Continuous rainfall in the region triggered the slope failure, causing a large portion of the hillside to collapse directly onto the highway.
The slide left the highway buried under earth and debris, disrupting movement in both directions. Hundreds of vehicles were reported stranded on either side of the affected stretch since morning, leaving commuters and transport operators facing prolonged delays and significant inconvenience.
The Jatinga–Silchar route is a vital link that connects Dima Hasao with the Barak Valley and other parts of Assam, and the blockage has severely affected the flow of passengers and goods along this corridor. Local residents and transporters expressed concern over supply and travel disruptions while waiting for the road to be cleared.
Authorities are monitoring the situation and have indicated that clearance operations will be undertaken to remove debris and restore traffic as soon as conditions allow. Motorists have been advised to exercise caution and follow official updates on road conditions before attempting travel on the Jatinga–Silchar National Highway.
