National Highway 29 Partially Reopens After Devastating Landslides in Nagaland

Dimapur: National Highway 29, a crucial artery connecting Dimapur, Kohima, and Manipur, was partially reopened for heavy vehicles on Friday, specifically for emergency services. This reopening follows significant landslides on the night of September 3, which severed communication and resulted in six fatalities in Chumoukedima’s Pherima area.

Efforts to restore the highway have been intensive, with the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL) and the state government working collaboratively. Thanks to their efforts, a single-lane passage on NH-29 has been made operational, allowing the movement of 20 heavy vehicles at a time.

Community leaders, including Western Sumi Hoho President Shikaho Zhimo and Western Sumi Youth Front President Atokiho Sumi, visited the affected areas to offer solidarity and support to the victims of the disaster.

The situation remains critical, and efforts continue to fully restore normalcy to the affected regions.
