India Appoints Rudra Gaurav Shresth as Türkiye Envoy in Bold Move
On June 12, 2026, the Ministry of External Affairs appointed senior career diplomat Rudra Gaurav Shresth as India’s next Ambassador to Türkiye. A 1999‑batch Indian Foreign Service officer, Shresth is currently serving as India’s Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Iran and is expected to assume charge in Ankara in the coming weeks, the ministry said.
Shresth took up the post in Tehran in May 2023. Over his long diplomatic career, he has served in Indian missions in France, Mauritius, Afghanistan, Singapore and Bhutan, and was India’s High Commissioner to Mozambique from 2016 to 2019.
At MEA headquarters in New Delhi, Shresth has handled personnel management and policy planning and has served as a Director in the Foreign Secretary’s Office. Prior to his posting in Tehran, he completed a three‑year deputation at the Prime Minister’s Office.
Shresth holds a postgraduate degree from the Delhi School of Economics. The ministry indicated that he will take up the Ankara assignment shortly, continuing a career marked by a mix of multilateral, bilateral and administrative experience.
