Shilpa Shinde’s Courageous Revelation: Film Producer’s Shocking Sexual Harassment Exposed

Television actor Shilpa Shinde, renowned for her role as Angoori Bhabhi in the sitcom “Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain,” has opened up about being harassed by a Hindi film producer early in her career. Speaking to News18, the 47-year-old recalled a distressing incident during an audition in 1998-99 when she was just starting out.

Shinde shared that during the audition, she was instructed to wear specific clothes and perform a scene where her character had to seduce her boss. “I was very innocent then, so I did the scene. That person tried to force himself on me,” Shinde recounted. Terrified, she managed to push the man away and fled from the room. The security staff, sensing the gravity of the situation, advised her to leave immediately.

Although deeply affected by the ordeal, Shinde has chosen not to disclose the name of the individual, citing concern for his family. “He has children a little younger than me. I don’t want to bring harm to his family,” she explained.

Reflecting on the pervasive issue of sexual harassment in the entertainment industry, Shinde pointed out its widespread nature and emphasized the importance of personal agency in such situations. “This happens to everyone,” she noted, stressing, “You may have been approached, but you also have the choice to say no. You can choose not to be part of it.”

Shinde’s revelations come at a significant time, as conversations about sexual harassment in the Indian entertainment industry gain momentum, particularly following the release of the Hema Committee report. This report highlights cases of harassment in the Malayalam film industry, underlining the systemic abuse of power and exploitation prevalent in the entertainment world.
