APTEA Announces Indefinite Pen-Down Strike from 15 Jun — Urgent
The Arunachal Pradesh Teacher Educators’ Association (APTEA) has warned it will launch an indefinite pen-down strike from June 15, 2026, unless the state government agrees to its demand for the timely release of SCERT and DIET employees’ salaries through the state head. The announcement, made in Itanagar on June 8, 2026, follows two earlier pen-down actions — on May 29, 2026, and on June 4–5, 2026 — that the association says failed to prompt a satisfactory government response.
APTEA president Tayon Dai said the salary irregularities began in 2019 and remain unresolved. He told reporters the affected group comprises 103 regular state government employees serving across all eleven District Institutes of Education and Training (DIETs) in Arunachal Pradesh. The association has repeatedly submitted representations and memorandums to authorities and held several meetings with the commissioner of education and the education minister, but says no written assurance has been provided to date.
Employees describe severe personal and financial hardship caused by delayed payments. “We do not want to resort to a pen-down strike, but we are left with no choice,” Dai said, while a DIET staff member added, “Our bank credit scores are being affected.” The association has vowed not to call off planned protests until it receives a written commitment addressing timely salary disbursement.
When contacted, Education Minister PD Sona said he is “ready to meet them anytime” but called the matter technical and said the commissioner and the Finance Department must be involved in detailed discussions. The Education Department has, meanwhile, disbursed pending DIET salaries for April and May 2026. APTEA says that measure falls short of its demand for a permanent solution to the longstanding disbursement irregularities.
