The Assam Police conducted an area-domination exercise in the inter-state border and riverine areas along the Assam–Arunachal Pradesh boundary at Sadiya in Tinsukia district on Monday, with senior officers visiting local communities under the jurisdiction of Saikhowaghat Police Station to strengthen police-public ties and reassure residents in the sensitive border zone. The operation combined patrols, community outreach and on-the-ground assessments aimed at reinforcing security and gathering local intelligence.
Additional SP (Headquarters), Sadiya, Arunima Bhuyan, accompanied by the officer-in-charge of Saikhowaghat Police Station and other personnel, went door to door in several localities. Officers listened to public grievances, reinforced confidence-building measures and urged cooperation between residents and law enforcement. The visits focused on addressing immediate concerns related to safety, cross-border movement and everyday law-and-order issues.
Tinsukia district, where Sadiya is located, borders three districts of Arunachal Pradesh — Changlang, Namsai and Lower Dibang Valley — and features challenging inter-state and riverine terrain that complicates policing. Regular area-domination exercises, which combine visible patrol presence with community engagement, are used to maintain order, improve situational awareness and keep communication channels open with frontier communities.
The Bhupen Hazarika Setu, also known as the Dhola–Sadiya Bridge, links Dhola in Tinsukia to Sadiya and is the first permanent road connection between northern Assam and eastern Arunachal Pradesh. Situated near the India–China boundary, the bridge has enhanced strategic access to the region, increasing the need for a steady police presence and ongoing engagement with local residents.
By interacting directly with villagers and local leaders during the exercise, police sought to reassure communities that the administration remains accessible and responsive. Officials said such operations are intended both to deter illegal activity and to build trust so that residents will share information and cooperate in keeping the border region secure and peaceful.
